A Heart full of Content
This topic has been on my mind and heart alot lately, If I am being honest its always on my mind.
Having a content heart means being happy and at ease with everything especially to your core. It can also mean being THANKFUL and satisfied with what you have even in difficult circumstances.
In todays world, our society seems like most of us are always looking for MORE, Always looking to see what is the next thing we can buy to bring happiness and contentment. A quick fix! When we know that feeling only last a little bit until we are looking for the next fix, its a cycle. There has always been issues with coveting, even in the bible, coveting is wanting what someone else has or even looks like. Social media can be a good source of information and encouragement but it can also bring discontent and depression. So many of us scroll and see someone we know or maybe we dont even know them and they post their picture they are beautiful, fit and we want to look like them, we start comparing our looks to theirs or they are on a luxury vacation, envy sets in, I deserve a vacation, why cant I take vacations like that? or they post a picture of their new home, WOW sure is a nice house, I want a bigger home that looks like that or maybe they post about a raise and promotion at a job and then we start questioning, I work hard, I should have had a promotion by now, why not me!! So many things that cause us to question our own self worth and value. We buy into the lies that our life doesnt measure up. I am guilty!!
Being discontent steals our JOY! It makes us restless and bitter, causes us to be anxious and irritable is this really how we want to live? In Hebrews 13:5 it says "Keep your life free from the love of money and be (satisfied) content with what you have because GOD has said, Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you. When we grumble with discontent we are demonstrating our lack of reverence and respect of what GOD has given us. God has giving us so much, I can hear him saying "What more do you really need? I sent my one and only son just for you (John 3:16) thats when we need to humble ourselves and ask for his forgiveness. Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6) it points us to what brings a heart of contentment.
How can we cultivate a heart full of content? Here are some ways and if you have any to add, please share with me you can post your comments on my facebook post
BE THANKFUL... Give thanks for what you have, even when you are going through a hard time or even a hard season of life.
BE HUMBLE... Do not compare yourself to others and recognize that contentment comes from within.
REST IN GODS PROVISION... Trust that God will meet all your needs. ( Philippians 4:19)
SEEK SATISFACTION IN CHRIST...Find strength and satisfaction in Gods word, which is consistent and unchanging and always true.(Isaiah 40:8)(Psalm 119:89)
WORK FOR GOD...Put GOD first in your life and direct your path towards growing closer to him.
The benefits of having a heart filled with contentment can help you distinguish between your wants and needs, makes you realize that JOY doesnt come from material things, to be more grateful, to be positive, to put your faith in action, and most of all experience a deeper relationship with God.
Thank you for joining me on this journey! God has really been working on my heart, stretching me, growing me and directing my steps to places I never imagined he would use me. Setting boundaries to protect my peace. He is truly a way maker, a miracle worker,a promise keeper, a light in the darkness, MY GOD. I pray to have a heart full of contentment every single day.
Lets follow the advice of Proverbs 19:23 " The fear of the Lord leads to life, then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
